Introduction

LBNC

  • Title: Laboratory of Biological Network Characterization
  • Website: http://lbnc.epfl.ch/
  • Contact: sebastian.maerkl@epfl.ch
  • Description: My lab is interested in applying state of the art microfluidic technology to relevant problems in systems biology.
  • Comments: As I am quite new here there is not much of a lab to show yet. But I would be happy to have a group of students come to my office to listen to a short (30mins) presentation/chat about my work.
  • Schedule: Monday at 13h00 or Thursday at 11h00.
  • Students: 3 to 4.

LSBG

  • Title: Laboratory of Systems Biology and Genetics
  • Website: http://deplanckelab.epfl.ch/
  • Contact: bart.deplancke@epfl.ch
  • Description: We are reverse engineering the gene regulatory networks controlling the development and function of multicellular organisms in health and disease.
  • Schedule: Very flexible.
  • Students: Not too many.

LBTC

  • Title: Laboratory of Cellular Biotechnology
  • Website: http://lbtc.epfl.ch/
  • Contact: lucia.baldi@epfl.ch
  • Description: Biotechnology, recombinant protein expression in mammalian cells, bioprocess engineering and bioreactors for cell cultures, "in vitro" gene delivery, generation and expansion of highly-producing stable cell lines, development of innovative and scalable cell culture systems.

LNMC

  • Title: Laboratory of Neural Microcircuitry
  • Website: http://bmi.epfl.ch/page61216.html
  • Contact: michele.giugliano@epfl.ch
  • Description: The Laboratory of Neural Microcircuitry is dedicated to understanding the structure, function and plasticity of the microcircuitry of the neocortex.
  • Comments: The doors of the lab are always open for satisfying the curiosity of the students and to allow them to find their passion in life. Please have a look on individual people.epfl.ch profiles (see the list at lnmc.epfl.ch) and then infer individual interests and research lines.
  • Schedule: Variable.
  • Students: Max 4-5 people at the time.

LBM

  • Title: Laboratory for Biomolecular Modeling
  • Website: http://lbm.epfl.ch/
  • Contact: matteo.dalperaro@epfl.ch
  • Description: We do computational simulations of biological molecules, using molecular dynamics techniques we study in silico the structure and dynamical features (i.e. the function) of proteins, membranes, nucleic acids in an environment as close as possible to the physiological one.
  • Comments: I don't speak french yet, thus I would give the presentation in english.
  • Schedule: Afternoon (~4pm).
  • Students: I think 4-5 students is the max that can fit in my offic

BBP

  • Title: Blue Brain Project
  • Website: http://bluebrain.epfl.ch/
  • Contact: felix.schuermann@epfl.ch
  • Description: The Blue Brain project is the first comprehensive attempt to reverse-engineer the mammalian brain, in order to understand brain function and dysfunction through detailed simulations.
  • Schedule: Variable.
  • Students: 3 or 4.

TRONOLAB

  • Title: Laboratory of Virology and Genetics (LVG)
  • Website: http://tronolab.epfl.ch/
  • Contact: severine.reynard@epfl.ch
  • Schedule: Not specified.
  • Students: Not specified.

LMAM

  • Title: Laboratory of Movement Analysis and Measurement
  • Website: http://lmam.epfl.ch/
  • Contact: hossein.rouhani@epfl.ch
  • Description: The research interest of Laboratory of Movement Analysis and Measurement (LMAM) is to design ambulatory measurement systems for body movement analysis with application of clinical evaluations and sport. We integrate inertial sensors (MEMS gyroscope and accelerometer), force sensors, EMG, Camera and etc. to characterize the changes in moving ability in various types of pathology (e.g. osteoarthritis, balance, pain and movement disorder).
  • Schedule: Variable.
  • Students: Variable.
