Outreach

A number of actions were directed to divulge knowledge and new developments in the area of research to the broader, non-expert public.

Instruction and information was mainly implemented by creating and editing articles on the broadly accessible on-line encyclopedia Wikipedia. Contributions to the following articles were made (in English and Dutch):

An interactive workshop "Bétonne ta main" was offered to the "Journée des Classes" visit of the EPFL facilities by groups of 11-12 year old primary school children. The workshop offered the children the possibility to get acquainted with the different components of mortar and the formulation, the mixing and the casting of cement mortars. The basic principles behind the hydration of cement that lead to setting and hardening were introduced, at the same time providing the children with a small souvenir.
