RTLS are a form of Local Positioning System (on internet queries the first term is more relevant when looking for companies specializing in the domain).

Many companies specialize in asset and personnel tracking applications - mostly indoor (avoid the following)

 

Potentially Interesting

DecaWave (very low cost tags, mostly indoor applications - not obvious why not outdoors, to be released in the end of 2013)

Xsense is working on indoor 3D tracking systems (biomimicry) but could potentially extend into outdoor applications.

Time Domain seems to be the most relevant technology to AWE needs.
