Detailed moving schedule

The move to the new library will start in December 2009.

First, a marking system specific to the move will be put in place 7 December in all the libraries: with labels, forms, bookmarks, etc.). The system will help the professional movers who have been called in to shift the books into the Rolex Learning Center (RLC).

The Central Library will be the only part of the system open between Christmas and New Year’s.

Monday 4 January 2010: the most recent documents housed by the specialized libraries, classed according to the universal decimal classification (UDC) system and published before 2001, will be brought together in the Main Library. The recent collections belonging to the Mathematics and Architecture Libraries are not included in this group.

Starting 5 January: the oldest collections and the least-borrowed will be moved to the RLC, as will be periodicals and journals. All the libraries will thus move their older collections during January. These documents will fill the shelves on the underground level of the new library.

The libraries, emptied of their collections, will nevertheless provide work spaces up to 31 January.

Starting 1 February: the recent collections, which are still in the Main Library as well as the Mathematics and Architecture Libraries, will also be moved to the Rolex Learning Center, on the ground floor.

The Mathematics Library (BMA) will close 8 February, the Main Library (BC) 9 February. before the Bibliothèque de l'EPFL opening, borrowed books could be return at the Arcadie cafeteria. The Architecture Library (BAR) will also be closed, periodicals collection is available with appointment only.

22 February 2010: the new Bibliothèque de l'EPFL (EPFL Library) will open in the Rolex Learning Center.
