The less water is available for the tourism sector, the more the region is exposed because of conflicts for water usage and because of water scarcity for tourism-related activities. See for example Reynard (2000) and EEA (2009) |

Data calculated in the frame of the CCHydro project (Zappa, personal communication). They will, however be available only starting from May 2011. Data on current water availability are depicted in the Hydrological Atlas of Switzerland (Spreafico and Schweiz 1992). Data are however not used because of some inconsistencies in the values for some regions, as observed in the Atlas. |

Tourism in Switzerland depends on water in many ways: other than for basic needs, water fills swimming pools and spas, irrigate golf fields and produces energy. In addition, it is frequently used for artificial snow production. If water becomes scarce, this could create conflicts with others sectors for its use, as for example agriculture or energy production. Many projects are analyzing the subject, in addition to the CCHydro one. The PNR 61; the ACQWA and the Water-Alp Scarce projects are some example between others. |
