How to configure a printer

This document details all the required steps to configure a printer on your workstation, using graphical tools only.



Please select your operating system :



Operations performed on Ubuntu 10.10 + GNOME.

Go to "System->Administration->Printing" :

Then click on "Add" for add a new printer :

Click on the "Network Printer" menu and select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer" then fill the fields like this :

Host : Printer IP or printer DNS name

Queue : Leave blank

Select "Select printer from database" and find the printer constructor in the lsit :

Next find the print le modèle de votre imprimante :

Tick the case for install duplexer  :

Finally, fill the fields and click "Apply" :

Printer name : Printer name

Description : Printer description (optional)

Location : Printer location



Mac OS

Operations performed on Mac OS 10.6.6.

Go to "Preferences System" and click on "print & fax" :

Click the "+" for add a new printer :

Select "IP" tab and fill the fields like this :

Protocol : Line Printer Daemon - LPD

Adress : IP adress or DNS name of the printer

Queue : Leave blank

Name : Printer name

Location : Printer location

Then, click on the combo box "Print using" and select "Sélectionnez le logiciel de 'imprimante..." :

Select the correct driver with the model of the printer in the search option and click "OK" :

Check if all the informations are correct and finally click on "Add" :


Windows :

Operations performed on Windows 7.

First, you need to enable the LPR port, go to "Control Panel->Programs->Turn Windows features on or off" and tick the "LPR Port Monitor" case :

 Go to "Start->Printer" and select "Add a printer" :

Choose "Create a new port" and "LPR Port" in the list :

Fill the fields like this :

1) Printer IP or printer DNS name

2) Printer name

Find the correct driver for you printer by constructor then by model :

Tick "Do not share this printer" :

Finally confirm by clicking on "Finish" :
