Project webpage

Introduction

ICLAB members involved in research projects get access and full administration rights for creating, managing their project webpage on the ICLAB site.

As those project pages will be seen by everybody including your visibility as project leaders, you should be particularly careful when creating it. Also, limit the text content to 10 to 20 lines split in 2 or 3 sections (for example: "Background", "Objectives" and "Example").

Always keep a backup of the content on your computer or the lab server in case of wrong manipulation or unintended removal. You can always contact the webmaster in case of doubt. You can also find detailed support and tutorials on webpage editing on the Jahia Help portail:

Two-step publishing

During the first step of project page creation, the page will remain on the intranet only visible by your team and webmasters, and you do not have possibility to publish out of it. When you think that your page is ready, contact the lab webmaster to verify and switch to full visibility on the web.

Page editing mode

While connected on the intranet, you can see the website edition Jahia toolbar on the top of the page. Its appearance changes depending on the access rights that you have been given. On your project page, you can change to "Preview" and "Edit" mode simply clicking on the button corresponding to the mode required.

Jahia toolbar appearance
Once you finish editing and reviewing your page, you must publish again to apply the change from the Jahia toolbar "Publish" button.

If the "Publish" button is not accessible, the page is already up-to-date. The change must be visible in "Live" mode, not only "Edit" or "Preview".

Editing Jahia buttons

These icons appear when you hover the mouse pointer over the different parts of your page in "Edit" mode. They allow the following basic operations:

Pencil button : modify the content or box contained in the yellow field appearing when flying the mouse over
X button : delete this content or box
"..." button : menu of modifications for this content

Modifying the menu/list title

Your project has a menu/list title and a page title. As your title should fit on one line in the project list/menu, you can shorten it there while developpiung it more on the page.

To modify the title, do as shown in the following pictures:
Click on the modifying element button "..." (1), then "Update a page" (2), then modify and validate (3).

Modifying the page content

For more help on text content, or to create a new text box, you can go on this Jahia Help page:

Adding pictures to the page

To add pictures is done in two steps. First, you need to upload the picture on the shared file server, and then you can set it while editing your text content using the inserting button. The full description is explained on the Jahia Help page:
jahia.epfl.ch/edit-content/add-images

To help the maintenance and organization of the server, keep your image names clear and traceable, as "project_icysoc_circuitexample.jpg", "project_icysoc_banner.jpg", etc.

Note that when placing the picture in your text, instead of choosing width and height sizes in pixels, you can write in width only a percentage (with the "%" character) of the box width only. For example, writing "100%" will fit the image exactly to the width of the text, as the pictures of this current page, also practical for banner images.

EPFL style banner

If you want a multi-picture banner, check and ask your image on AtelierWeb KeyVisual.

You can also find pictures on the EPFL gallery.

Modifying the right hand column

The right column is reserved for listing people, funding, collaborations or links to slideshows, posters or papers of the project. It must be kept as lists of links.

When you fly over each list of links, the +, pencil and X buttons appear to respectively add, modify or delete a link.

If there is no link adress, keep the "Create a link..." option, and simply type "no link" in the link adress.
