Fromatting and reinstalling workstations with Centos 7

This page describes how to automatically format and (re)install worskstations with Centos 7 using a kickstart script. This script will automatically format the full hard drive, install centos 7 and some additionnal packages required for EDA tools, do an update, setup the LDAP login (for ICLAB members only) and mount the edadk NFS drives using autofs.

  1. Preparing the Workstation
    • BACKUP YOUR FILES!!! The hard drive will be formatted
    • In the Bios (press F2 when powering up), set the Intel integrated grahics to be the default graphic card. If this option is not present in the BIOS, it means you need to update the BIOS.
    • Set boot mode to Legacy.
    • Plug the screens the the integrated graphics display ports (not the Nvidia graphic card at the bottom).
  2. Lauching the installation
    • Take the ARP USB key for the Centos installation (in the digital office)
    • Plug it to the workstation and boot from the USB device (F12 when powering up)
    • In the menu, select "install centos 7 unsing kickstart"
    • Wait for the installation to finish.

At the end, you only need to accept the license.

Optional: add some users to the sudoers list in /etc/sudoers using the root password
