Shipment of activated samples

Once an experiment has been done on a sample at a large scale facility, using neutrons, X-rays, or muons, it is possible that the sample is activated at the end of the experiment.

Each facility has its own set of rules regarding the minimum activity of a sample that can be released. Similarly, each facility and country has its own rules when it comes to receiving/transporting a potentially radioactive sample.

When planing an experiment, the proposer may want to ship the sample in advance, and if the sample has already been exposed to a large scale facility beam, he may be worried that several labellings and additional shipment fees might be necessary.
