Install ROS Indigo Igloo

The 8th release of ROS, is Indigo Igloo, targeted for Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty). This version supports Mac OS X, and Windows to a certain degree. Indigo supports releasing, documenting and integration testing of catkin-based packages only.

For a virtual installation directly to Ubuntu Linux, follow these simple steps

 

1. Install VirtualBox for ROS in Mac OS X

2. Install Ubuntu (Trusty) 14.04

i) Download from the Ubuntu site (Desktop version)

ii) Start VirtualBox and press "New" to create a new virtual machine partition. Configure the OS virutal machine for Linux and give it a name. Provide a large amount of RAM (at least 4GB, suggested 8GB if available). Create a virtual HD (choose dynamically allocated space).

iii) Start the virtual machine you have created. On the new window select the ".iso" file that contains the Ubuntu Installation, you have previously downloaded.

iv) Follow the steps of the installation procedure and configure Ubuntu.

v) Change screen resolution of VirtualBox (the screen size is usually quite small). Go to "Devices" (in VirtualBox) and run "Insert Guest editions". Afterwards, go to your System settings > Display (in Ubuntu) and change the screen resolution.

 

3. Install ROS Indigo
