Lausanne lies in the French speaking part of Switzerland and is the capital of the canton of Vaud. The city is situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the Alps and not far from the Jura mountains. Located 62 km northeast of Geneva, Lausanne faces the French town of Evian-les-Bains. Weather in June in Lasuanne can be anything from sunny and 22 °C to rainy and windy at 12 °C, so pack accordingly. You can check the weather forecasts by the Swiss Meteorology office.
In Switzerland we use Swiss Francs (CHF) and the exchange rate is approximately 1.2 CHF / €. CHF 1 is equivalent to 100 centimes. In Lausanne Central Train Station, there is a currency exchange machine and several ATM machines.

Travel to EPFL
The EPFL campus (campus map) is located 6 km west of Lausanne and is accessed most easily by metro. Parking is expensive and scarce.
Public transport (line map): If you come directly from the railway station, take the metro line M2 to Lausanne-Flon (direction Croisettes), then change to metro line M1 (direction Renens). The ride on the M1 metro line from Lausanne-Flon stop to EPFL stop takes 12 minutes (direction: Renens or Renens-Gare). The meeting venue (BC Building) can be by following the map below. Count 10-12 minutes on foot. (You can download the route description and map here)
NB: Tickets for the bus and metro lines in Lausanne should be purchased prior to boarding, from machines located at each bus/metro stop (make sure to have coins, as bills or credit cards are often not accepted). A single ticket costs CHF 3.50 for zones 11-12 (to reach EPFL from the city) and will be valid for 1 hour (from the time of purchase) of unlimited travel on any method of transport (bus, metro, local train) within the zone. A short trip within these zones (up to 3 stops, valid 30') costs CHF 1.90.it is suggested that you carry a change purse, as you will acquire “change” for local public transport. Note that most hotels provide day passes to their guests.
By car: On Motorway N1, follow the directions for Lausanne, then for Lausanne-Sud, and finally exit at "Sortie UNIL-EPFL". The lake will be on your left. At the second roundabout, after a few hundred meters, enter the EPFL campus on your right. NB: Parking on campus is payable and as there are very few spaces available, we strongly recommend that you use public transport.
Taxi
As anything else, taxis are expensive but handy in Lausanne. You can pay by credit card in almost all taxi’s, but better ask beforehand. (Taxi Lausanne 0844 814 814)
