Notes from John Selker (4 Feb 2009)
- salt only for event, depends on temporal resolution
- side scanning, ultra scan doppler (state of the art, move side to side, take stage and speed)
- weir most accurage and robust
- USGS current practices:
- @bridge measure stage and flow , construct flow versus stage - need stage recorder (standard)
- star flow: pressure meaure with stage, + ultrasound flow -> but less accurage, good for rivers about a meter deep (too small for bigger)
- Santarita flume (they did in chile)
- broad flum with super critical flow, can handle lots of sediment/rocks
- it is a cement structure upstream of bridge
- they chose a stable location (bedrock)
