Tips and Tricks
Browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari)
Problem: You have a very basic editor in Moodle without buttons to add links, images, etc. You have to type HTML code.
Solution: Not all browsers offer the same edition functionalities. We recommend Firefox, especially for Macintosh users. Indeed, Safari only provides a very simple text editor rather than the normal WYSIWIG (what you see is what you get) editor.
Students choose groups/themes/projects
Problem: students have to choose a topic, a group, a projects, etc.
Solution: create a choice activity
- from the "Add an activity" pull down menu, choose "Choice"
- describe the choice, e.g. "select the project you would like to work on ..."
- decide whether you want to limit the number of students who choose a particular option. As an example, if you want to create groups of maximum three students, set the "Limit number of responses" to "Enable". If you simply want students to vote for the different options or if the size of the groups do not matter, set the parameter to "Disable".
- describe each possible choice by providing a short title (e.g. "thermal constraints project") and the maximum number of students who can take this choice (if you decided to limit the number of responses). Each choice can have a different limit.
- The default number of choices is 5 but it can be modified by clicking on "Add 3 fields to form".
Sending email to students
Il y a trois possibilités. La 1) et 2) envoient un email aux étudiants qui sont inscrits à votre cours Moodle. La 3) envoie un email aux étudiants inscrits dans IS-Academia. Si un étudiant est inscrit dans IS-Academia mais ne s'est jamais connecté sur moodle, il ne recevra pas le message envoyé avec 1) et 2). Si un étudiant est inscrit dans Moodle mais pas dans IS-Academia (typiquement durant les trois premières semaines du semestre), il ne recevra pas le message envoyé par la méthode 3).
- Postez un message sur le forum du cours (en vous assurant avant que le réglage "Force everyone to be subscribed?" soit réglé sur "Yes, forever"). Les étudiants inscrits au cours Moodle recevront un email avec le contenu du message.
- Cliquez sur "Participants" dans la boîte "People". Dans le menu déroulant "Role" choisissez "Student". Au bas de la page, choisissez "Show all xx". Cliquez sur le bouton "Select All" puis dans le menu déroulant "With selected users", choisissez "Add/Send message". Les étudiants inscrits au cours Moodle recevront un email.
- Si vous avez installé la boîte IS-Academia dans votre cours, cliquez sur "Official student list". La liste représente les étudiants inscrits à votre cours sur IS-Academia.
