System Overview
The platform used for the autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) is a catamaran measuring 5.10m long and 2.4m in width. For the purpose of the project, the catamaran has been loaded with 2 electric motors, one behind each hull. A very general schematic system overview is presented below.
- The Power Supply System provides all DC voltages needed for operating the on-board components (motors, computer, sensors and controllers).
- The On-Board Computer System is the catamaran's brain. It provides all electronic interfaces for sensor read-out, navigation and communication.
- The Sensors mounted on the catamaran are environmental sensors, namely: water temperature, radiometer, humidity, wind speed and direction, echo-sounder, CTD and ADCP.
- The Remote Control and Monitoring Computer allows for mission planning and real-time monitoring of environmental parameters.
