2.1.2 Sensitivity

Sensitivity refers to the degree to which a system is affected, either adversely or beneficially, by climate variability or change. The effect may be direct or indirect. It depends here on tourism structure, population, economy, infrastructure, institutions, and the environment.

A list of the indicators chosen could be found HERE

Tentative results

Sensitivity appears to be heterogeneously spread. The different indicators balance each other in some ways. However, central Valais, central Graubunden and Western Switzerland seem to be more sensitive to climate change. The top 5 most sensitive regions are Crans-Montana, the Sion Region - Les 4 vallées et Evolène, Sierre - Anniviers, les Portes du Soleil - Chablais, and Verbier St-Bernard. On the other hand, the South of Alps, the Zürich region, and the Bernese Alps look be sensitive. Mendrisiotto, Zurich, Wengen-Mürren-Lauterbrunnental, Grindelwald and the Zürcher Weinland appear to be the 5 least sensitive regions. Reasons of the higher sensitivity have to be searched in the local environment and local institutions structures [landuse protection, size of communes - communes aggregation, ecologists vs liberals].
