The IEEE EPFL Student Branch is pleased to announce the invitation to participate in the IEEE Region 8 (Europe, Africa and Middle East) Student Paper Contest. To select the official EPFL entry to the contest, we are planning to organize a local Student Paper Contest at EPFL.

With over twenty years of existence, IEEE Region 8 Student Paper Contest (SPC) is a tradition, which drives academic, technical and student activity in Region 8. It is an excellent occasion for personal leadership and strong involvement of student members in a prospective IEEE scientific/technical activity.

IEEE Region 8student members or graduate student members who have not yet started their PhD are eligible to participate. Only IEEE Region 8student members could be authors of the IEEE Region 8 SPC papers. Professors-mentors and other associates cannot be SPC authors (but their names can be acknowledged in the final versions of the papers).  Each student author must be a member of an IEEE Student Branch at the time of the original submission of the paper to the Branch Contest, and a member (student or not) of the IEEE at the time of the Region 8 Oral Final presentation. The work presented has to be completed before the student receives the engineering degree that entitles him/her to start preparing for the doctoral school. The submission of the paper to the Region 8 SPC must be completed within 12 months after graduation. A doctoral thesis is not considered.

It is recommended that students presenting a part of their Semester or Master project get the authorization of their corresponding professor.

Papers should cover technical and engineering aspects of a subject related to IEEE areas of interest. The work need not be original in engineering content, but should be original in treatment and concise in coverage of the author’s contribution to the subject.

The paper should not exceed 6 pages and should follow the two-column IEEE Transactions style.

The deadline to send full papers to IEEE Student Branch at EPFL is October 19th. (closed)
The top three papers at the local contest will be awarded by the IEEE EPFL Student Branch.
The best paper will be selected as the official entry from EPFL to the IEEE Region 8 Student paper contest.

All the finalists of the Region 8 competition will be invited and financially supported to present their papers at IEEE MELECON 2012 Conference, 25-28 March 2012, Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia.

The papers will be published in MELECON 2012 Conference Proceedings and included in IEEE Xplore Database. Three best finalists will get prizes from the IEEE Life Member Fund. An electronic version of the finalists’ papers will also be published in the IEEE Region 8 SAC web pages.
